Redwood Trade Guide

About This Site

This site is an independent reference on contractor licensing in California. It exists to answer the questions people actually arrive with — which license covers my work, what it costs, how long it lasts — from the statute and the licensing board’s own material, with the source shown. It is published by Redwood Trade Guide, an independent publisher of state contractor-licensing references.

Editorial standards

Everything on the regulatory pages follows the same rules.

What this site is not

This site is not affiliated with the Contractors State License Board, with any state agency, or with any trade body. It does not license anyone, it cannot process an application, and it has no access to any application or license record beyond the board’s public lookup.

This site is also not legal advice. The pages describe what the rules say; they do not tell you what to do about your own situation, and a page cannot know your facts. For anything that turns on your own circumstances, ask a qualified professional, and for anything that turns on your own license or application, ask the board.

No author’s name, and why

Pages here carry no author’s name. The claim this site makes is not about anyone’s credentials — it is that a primary source was read, quoted and dated, and every regulatory page shows you which one so you can read it yourself. A name above a sentence you cannot check adds nothing; the citation underneath it is the thing you can.

The guide itself begins at the California contractor license overview. What this site will not do is set out in full on the disclaimer page, and the commercial side on the affiliate disclosure.
